»venture» 2012 is an initiative of McKinsey & Company, Switzerland, the ETH Zurich, the innovation promotion agency CTI and Knecht Holding. The Swiss-wide business plan competition supports young entrepreneurs in founding a company. »venture» 2012 – like »venture» 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008 and 2010 – aims to put to use untapped innovation potential by encouraging young entrepreneurs to develop a business idea. A number of renowned companies from Swiss industry and commerce sponsor the competition.

In addition to the prize money (CHF 150,000 in total) for the especially successful, »venture» 2012 provides coaching, networking opportunities, valuable publicity and lectures. In a series of seminars (Founder’s Knowledge Seminars), selected speakers present their insights into the main subjects of interest to start-up founders. Today the second seminar on Marketing was held at the ETHZ. Based on case studies of Swiss high-tech ventures in the CTI coaching program, Marcos illustrated what entrepreneurial marketing is all about.

"You can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future." This was said by Steve Jobs (1955-2011, founder of Apple Computer) and reflects the fact that building a new business based on innovation is a non-linear process highly affected by uncertainty and ambiguity. Under these conditions and the lack of resources, marketing in new ventures is an entrepreneurial process driven by a strong vision and evolving opportunities.

UrbanFarmers @ TEDxZurich 2011

UrbanFarmers is a spin-off company of the ZHAW in Wädenswil, offering a system for urban food production. They use the aquaponics technology for the production of protein-rich food (fish) and vegetables, herbs or fruits (plants). UrbanFarmers is in the CTI Start-up Program and coached by Marcos Garcia Pedraza.
TEDxZurich is a day of wonder, inspiration and awe. The event is a series of short talks, ranging from about five to eighteen minutes length. The second edition of TEDxZurich was held today, at TV Studios of SRF / tpc (Fernsehstrasse 1-4, Zurich). At 11:11 am Roman Gaus, founder and CEO of UrbanFarmers, gave a inspiring talk. Icelandic Literature at Literaturtage Zofingen

Eyjafjallajökull... this is not a hex, but the Icelandic volcano that, last year, ruptured and, all of a sudden, became a star. This year, the Literaturtage Zofingen show the stars of Icelandic literature: Einar Már Guðmundsson, Jóhanna Vigdís Hjaltadóttir, Sigurbjörg Þrastardóttir, Þórarinn Eldjárn, Ævar Örn Jósepsson, just to name some of them.
There is no other country in Europe which identity is so much fashioned by literature. The small country Iceland provides a substantial input to world literature, from the medieval Sagas and Eddas to to contemporary literature.
The Literaturtage Zofingen take place in Zofingen from October 21 to 23 in connection with the Frankfurter Buchmesse and will offer in a charming atmosphere a sensuous contact with Icelandic literature. I will be there.
